What works on Reddit for brands: what we have found, and the research behind it

Five Reddit marketing best practices that hold up when a company takes part, with the buyer study, the FTC and Reddit rules and the citation data behind each.

  • Answer the question first. In the Reddit × SurveyMonkey study of 1,202 U.S. business decision-makers, published March 10, 2026, 83% research before speaking to sales, 23% had used Reddit for that research, and 73% trust peer insights above vendor websites.
  • Say who you work for in the reply itself. The FTC's Endorsement Guides FAQ (June 2023) says listing your employer on a profile page is not enough and a disclosure in the comments is easily avoidable, and Reddit's Rule 5 asks you not to mislead.
  • Read the community's rules, then the thread. Reddit's spam policy (edited May 19, 2026) leaves the judgment of what is spam to each community's moderators, and its Disrupting Communities policy counts repeated removals across related communities against the account.
