The outcomes belong to Wayfair, Advance Local, Getuplead and HubSpot, as their authors published them. rouse did not perform this work, has no client performance results to publish, and re-read each account on September 12, 2026.
The published evidence that Reddit marketing works is four accounts with four different outcome measures. Wayfair reports a 50%+ rise in profile followers with no baseline. Advance Local reports steady referral growth with no number. Getuplead’s co-founder reports two clients in six months. HubSpot reports Reddit-driven AI citations rising from 178 to 146,000 inside a much wider program. Each is worth reading with its missing context attached.
Every published Reddit case study defines its own outcome and omits a baseline, a denominator or a cost. Read each result in the terms its author chose, ask what is missing, and treat none of them as a forecast for your company.
Does Reddit marketing work? What the published record contains
The honest answer is that four published accounts name the company, the work and an outcome, and none of them is an audited result. Two are platform-published by Reddit for Business, one is a founder writing in the first person on Buffer’s blog, and one is HubSpot’s own report on its answer-engine program. Agency pages that claim results for unnamed clients without a method were left out.
Each account defines success differently: followers, referral traffic, signed clients and AI citations. Averaging them would produce a number with no meaning. The useful question for a reader is which evidence would show the same outcome for their own company, and each section below ends with it.
Wayfair: shopping advice, a 50%+ rise in followers and referral traffic
Reddit for Business publishes Wayfair’s account under the heading “Wayfair uses Reddit Pro to help redditors get answers, and grow traffic as a result”. Wayfair’s SEO content team noticed Reddit appearing on page one of Google for the longtail queries it targets and decided to use organic participation to diversify traffic to its Ideas & Advice blog. The team answers product questions with practical shopping advice, such as looking for items with over 4-star ratings and 50 or more reviews, and shares blog articles only when they fit the conversation. [1]
The stated results are steady month-over-month growth in referral traffic from Reddit since the team started engaging earlier in the year, and a 50%+ increase in Reddit profile followers. Wayfair also noticed enough service questions arriving on Reddit that it planned to add a customer service element the following year. The team tracks its work through Reddit Pro’s dashboard against a monthly target for quality comments. [1]
What the page leaves out: a publication date, the year the work began, the starting follower count, any traffic number, the interval the 50% covers and the cost of the editor’s time. The page sits among Reddit’s advertiser success stories with a “Reddit Ads Case Study” title tag, although the work it describes is unpaid participation through Reddit Pro. To judge a similar program you would want dated follower counts, the list of contributions, referral sessions per month and the questions answered.
Advance Local: a publisher posting stories where readers already discuss them
Reddit for Business published this account on April 12, 2024, written by Grace Close, a principal product marketing manager at Reddit. Advance Local’s sites MLive.com and Cleveland.com began posting non-paywalled stories in communities that had an interest in them, with the goals of driving traffic and page views and tapping into what the page calls traditionally underserved communities. Reddit Pro’s listening tools, drawing on what the page describes as 200 to 1,000 or more weekly mentions depending on the site, showed which subreddits were already sharing their stories. [2]
The reported outcome is steady growth in referral traffic, both from what the sites posted and from redditors posting their stories. MLive’s director of audience described moving from local subreddits, where the site was mentioned most, to topic subreddits where readers wanted to discuss the subject, and said a politics story posted in a politics subreddit can generate more engagement than the paper’s main Facebook page. [2]
What the page leaves out: any number for traffic, page views or engagement, the period compared, and what “steady growth” means against the sites’ overall referral mix. It is a publisher example, where the product is the story itself, so the fit for a software or services company is indirect. The transferable lesson is the discovery method: find where your subject is already being discussed before deciding where to contribute.
Getuplead: specialist answers and two clients in six months
Writing on Buffer’s blog on June 20, 2024, Getuplead co-founder Kamel Ben Yacoub reported: “We closed two clients from Reddit in six months.” He answered questions about paid marketing in communities related to his expertise, spending a couple of hours each Tuesday and Thursday morning, and found that groups of 500 to 5,000 members worked best. He names r/marketing and a 600-member r/LinkedInAds as examples. [3]
The mechanism he describes is that potential clients reached out saying they had seen his response on Reddit and were looking for exactly his expertise. For an agency that keeps about a dozen clients at any one time, two new clients is a material share of the book, which is why the account is relevant to any business whose product is expertise. [3]
What the account leaves out: CRM records, deal values, whether those clients stayed, whether other channels were running at the same time and the full labor cost. It gives no conversion rate that another business could apply. A measured version would record each enquiry, the prospect’s own account of how they found the firm, qualification, the outcome and the hours spent.
HubSpot: Reddit citations inside a much wider answer-engine program
HubSpot’s case study, written by Rory Hope and updated August 24, 2026, describes a program that began in June 2025 with XFunnel, a tool that measures visibility across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and other answer engines. XFunnel’s benchmarks showed Reddit was one of the most cited sources for HubSpot’s tracked prompts, so the team built weekly monitoring of high-impact subreddits and HubSpot mention gaps, then asked HubSpot community advocates to post content addressing top buyer questions. [4]
The Reddit outcome as HubSpot states it: Reddit-driven citations grew from 178 in May 2025 to 146,000 in December 2025. After benchmarks showed French and German markets with Reddit citation growth and zero HubSpot mentions, localized campaigns took HubSpot’s mention rate from 0% to 33.5% in France and 17.1% in Germany within one month. Program-wide, HubSpot reports a 433% increase in citations and a 1,850% increase in qualified leads from AI, alongside partnerships with hundreds of websites that produced nearly a thousand new pages. [4]
What the article leaves out: the number and stability of the tracked prompts behind the 178 and the 146,000, what counts as a Reddit-driven citation, how the advocates disclosed their affiliation, and how much of the lead growth belongs to Reddit rather than to the website, publisher and comparison-article work running at the same time. A citation is an appearance in a measured answer, not a person reached. Our article on how often AI answers cite Reddit explains why citation counts need a fixed denominator before two months can be compared.
Reddit marketing results examples side by side
The table sets the four accounts beside each other in the terms their authors chose. It is rouse’s reading aid rather than a benchmark, and the rows cannot be added or averaged.
| Account | Published | Outcome as stated | What is missing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wayfair (Reddit for Business) | Undated | 50%+ increase in profile followers; steady month-over-month growth in referral traffic | Baseline, interval, traffic figures, cost |
| Advance Local (Reddit for Business) | April 12, 2024 | Steady growth in referral traffic from posted and reader-shared stories | Any number, period compared, share of total referrals |
| Getuplead (Buffer) | June 20, 2024 | Two clients closed from Reddit in six months | CRM evidence, deal values, other channels, full labor cost |
| HubSpot (own blog) | Updated August 24, 2026 | Reddit-driven AI citations from 178 (May 2025) to 146,000 (December 2025) | Prompt set and its stability, citation definition, share attributable to Reddit |
Three patterns across all four
The company contributed something a reader could use before it asked for anything. The outcome each author reported was the one their tools could see, which is why a publisher reports traffic and a marketing platform reports citations. And none of them published the denominator that would let a reader turn the result into an expectation.
What a rouse case study will need before we publish one
rouse has no client performance results to report, and these accounts are not a substitute for them. We publish them to show the kinds of outcome that useful participation has been credited with, and the evidence questions each one raises.
Our own case studies will document the starting conditions, the agreed scope, every published contribution with its URL, the measurement coverage, the community response and the outcomes we can attribute, with the customer’s permission. They will also record the work that failed, removals, other marketing changes in the period and, where the customer allows, the cost. Our article on measuring Reddit engagement, “From a useful answer to a measurable outcome”, sets out the report format, and our article on reading a monthly delivery report shows what the customer sees each month.
One accountable lead per customer owns that record. Where attribution is incomplete, the case study will say so, so that a reader can judge what the result supports.
The useful question for a buyer
Ask what changed, which records show it and how much of the change can reasonably be connected to the work. A smaller result with its baseline and period attached is worth more to a decision than a large number without them.
