What a Reddit marketing report should include, and how to push back on one

What a Reddit marketing report should include: five sections, what Reddit's own data and analytics can and cannot supply, and how to push back on padding.

A Reddit marketing report should be a dated record of the work that was published, what each community did with it, what could be measured, and what still waits on a decision. It counts published work only, dates every figure, and leaves anything unmeasured blank. Whether an agency or your own team wrote it, you should be able to open every line and check it against the thread.

What should a Reddit marketing report include?

Type what should a Reddit marketing report include into a search box and most answers list totals: impressions, reach, an engagement rate. Totals are the least checkable part of a report.

Start from what community work produces. Someone reads a thread, writes a reply, says who they work for, and publishes it. Other people answer, vote, or say nothing. A moderator may remove it. Some of it waits on a decision. A report that records those events in that order has five sections.

Section What it records Where its numbers stop
Reporting period The dates the report covers and the day each figure was read. Nothing published after the period.
Published work Every contribution with its community, date, URL, the disclosure it carried and whether it is still up. Pending and removed items are listed with a note and kept out of every total.
Community response Replies, votes where recorded, moderator notes, removals, and a chart of recorded traction by week. Views and shares exist only in Reddit's insights for the posting account.
Open decisions Items waiting on you, on the team or on a community, each with a name against it. Nothing is closed on your behalf.
Next priorities What the team proposes for the coming period, against the agreed scope. A proposal, changed by your reply.

Recorded traction is the chart most readers look at first, so it sits inside community response. It counts published work only. Each bar groups the response, as read at the end of the period, for everything published in a given week. A reply from week one has had four weeks to gather replies; one from week four has had days.

Why does every line need a date and a URL?

Almost everything in a Reddit marketing report is an observation made on a particular day. A reply went up on the 9th; its reply count was read on the 30th. The thread will look different next month, so a figure without the day it was read cannot be compared with anything.

The period fixes what counts. Anything published inside it is in; a draft published after it belongs to the next report. A later correction or removal is recorded in the next period, and the report you were sent is never rewritten. The steps between a draft and a live reply are in how a brand should approve Reddit content before it goes out.

The URL is how you check the rest. The FTC's business guidance on the Endorsement Guides, updated July 15, 2025, says that listing an employer on a profile page "isn't enough" because people who read the post will not see it, and that a company "is ultimately responsible for what others do on your behalf". The same page tells a company working through an outside firm to "ask for regular reports confirming that the program is operating properly". A report that records the disclosure line against every published URL is how you do that; opening a handful of those URLs each month confirms the record.

What can Reddit's own data supply?

Community response means replies, votes where they were recorded, a moderator's note, a removal, and a line that says so when a contribution drew nothing.

Reddit Help's Post & Comment Insights page, updated June 12, 2026, lists what an author sees. For a post: upvotes, comments, views with a views-per-hour graph over the first 24 hours, shares, reposts and awards. For a comment: upvotes, upvote ratio, replies, views with a geographical breakdown, shares and awards. The page describes them as available "whenever you make a post or comment", so they belong to the posting account, and moderators can see post insights for posts in their own communities. A view count in your report therefore came from someone with access to that account, or from nowhere.

Reddit Pro's Performance feature, updated April 2, 2026, adds CSV downloads of post, comment and account performance, keeps hourly views for 45 days after publication, and answers its own FAQ with "Performance only shows organic post performance." The same page defines account reach as views "including repeat views" while item views are "unique post views", so two figures called views on one page are different counts.

Three consequences follow. Views and shares belong in a report only where access to the posting account's insights was agreed before collection. If the work was posted from accounts you do not control, ask for the export within 45 days. And no Reddit figure describes a campaign-wide unique audience, because the platform does not publish one. Our article on measuring Reddit engagement walks through the fields on each Reddit surface.

How to measure Reddit marketing results beyond Reddit

Everything past community response depends on data Reddit does not hold, so how to measure Reddit marketing results comes down to layers, each with a first-party limit.

Referral traffic needs your analytics. Google Analytics Help's campaign URL documentation explains that when a user clicks a tagged link, the utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign values "are visible in the Traffic acquisition report", and that missing parameters show as "(not set)". A tag identifies the visits that arrived through that link. It says nothing about the reader who saw the thread and searched for you a week later.

Untagged links fall into whichever bucket the default channel group rules assign. Organic Social is any source that "matches a regex list of social sites", and Direct is a source that "exactly matches "(direct)"" with a medium of "(none)" or "(not set)", where a reader who typed your address after seeing a thread lands. The grouping works on source and medium, so nothing in it names the thread.

Many contributions carry no link at all, because the community's rules or the conversation do not call for one. Analytics cannot attribute those, and the report should say so on the line. The one signal left is a prospect saying where they found you, and that belongs on its own line, labeled self-reported, never merged into tagged sessions.

Answer engines add a layer that analytics never sees. Google's Search Generative AI performance reports, announced June 3, 2026 and rolled out to all websites worldwide by August 31, 2026, are the first-party view of AI Overviews and AI Mode. They show impressions by page, country, device and date; clicks are not among the metrics listed, so an AI impression is not a visit either. Search Console's help page for the report defines an impression as a time "links to your site were shown to a user in a generative AI feature", so a Reddit thread that appears in an AI Overview without linking to you is invisible there.

Visits are the layer after impressions, and Pew Research Center's July 22, 2025 analysis of 900 U.S. adults' browsing during March 2025 shows how thin it is. People clicked a traditional search result in 8% of visits that showed an AI summary and in 15% of visits that did not, and clicked a link inside the summary itself in 1% of visits. Being cited and being visited are different events, and a report that trades one for the other is guessing.

A citation is not a sale. An honest report keeps every layer apart so you can see which one moved.

Sales are the layer after visits, and they live in your CRM and in what customers tell you. A report can carry the tagged sessions and self-reported mentions it was given; it cannot supply incremental revenue, and one that claims to has invented a step. The field guide's measurement section sets out the layers, and how to measure Reddit and AI search visibility gives each visibility measure its denominator.

Why unmeasured stays blank, and a zero is a lie

A zero is a measurement. It says the instrument ran and found nothing. A blank says the instrument did not run, or could not. A report that writes zero where nothing was measured has claimed a finding it does not have, and next month's rise from zero will look like growth.

Google's own tooling shows how the two merge. The Search Console help page says the generative AI report may be absent when a site "hasn't received enough impressions", and that values shown as "~ or -" in the report "will be zeros in the downloaded data". A blank in Search Console becomes a zero in the spreadsheet somebody pastes into a report. The same happens when a reply carried no link and the referral column is filled in anyway.

The two rules on this article's cover, published work only and unmeasured stays blank, follow from the same principle as reading the denominator: a rate without its sample is a guess, and a count without the day it was read is a guess with the date missing.

How to push back on a report that pads

Any Reddit marketing report, ours included, deserves the same six questions, asked in writing so the answer lands in the next one.

  1. Does every published contribution have a URL you can open, and does the disclosure you see in the thread match the one recorded against it?
  2. Is every response figure dated, and is the date the day it was read rather than the day the post went up?
  3. Are pending and removed items listed with a note, and are they outside the traction totals?
  4. Is anything unmeasured written as a blank with a note, or has a zero crept in where nothing was observed?
  5. Does the referral line say what it was measured with, and does any visibility figure show its denominator?
  6. Is any outcome claim tied to your own analytics or your customers' words, or has a Reddit number been read as revenue?

Padding has a recognizable shape: impressions with no source, reach with no definition, an engagement rate with no denominator, and a total that rises every month because removed work was never subtracted. Send any no to the author before the next period starts. If the next one does not answer it, the problem is the process, and whether in-house or an agency should own Reddit marketing sets out what the FTC and Reddit expect of whoever owns it.

How we write ours

Our monthly report follows the five sections above, in that order, and one named person writes and signs it, because the FTC guidance quoted earlier puts the responsibility on the company. A fictional entry for a brand called Acorn would read: published on the 9th, disclosure "I work on the team at Acorn", two replies read on the 30th, votes not recorded, no link in the reply, referral blank.

We read each thread at about one day, seven days and 30 days after publication and record the day of each reading, because a reply's numbers only compare with another reply's at a similar age. Replies from us or from the customer are excluded from the response count. Removals stay in the record with the reason where a moderator gave one, because a removal says something about fit that a smaller total would hide.

For visibility we hold a fixed panel of buyer questions, run it on a fixed schedule and store the engine, date, locale and every cited URL, so every rate has its denominator beside it. Tagged sessions and self-reported discovery sit on separate lines, and we keep the raw Search Console export with unavailable cells marked unavailable. We have not published client results, and a report written for one customer does not become a case study; the evidence behind the practices is collected in what works on Reddit for brands.

To see where your brand stands before any of this begins, the free Reddit visibility report shows the coverage behind every number, and you can ask us about the report itself.

Questions people ask

What should a Reddit marketing report include?

A dated list of every published contribution with its community, URL, disclosure and the response it drew, plus the decisions still waiting on someone and the priorities proposed for the next period. Every figure carries the day it was read, and anything that could not be measured is left blank rather than written as zero.

How do you measure Reddit marketing results?

In separate layers: the work published, the community's response from Reddit's own insights, the visits your analytics can attribute through tagged links, and the enquiries and sales in your CRM. Each layer has a first-party limit, and no Reddit metric on its own reaches revenue.

Can a Reddit marketing report show how much revenue Reddit produced?

Only as far as your own data reaches: tagged sessions in analytics, prospects who said they found you on Reddit, and the pipeline stages in your CRM. Reddit's native metrics stop at views, votes and replies for the posting account, so a revenue figure with no analytics behind it was invented.

Why does a Reddit marketing report show blanks instead of zeros?

A zero means the measurement ran and found nothing, while a blank means it could not run, for instance when a reply carried no link or votes were never recorded. Writing zero for an unmeasured value claims a finding that does not exist and makes the next month look like growth.
